Voice communication on IP network is an emerging phenomenon, popularly known as VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). Several VOIP technologies are in the race, and SIP (Session InitiationProtocol) has emerged as the forerunner, and CIBER spotted this opportunity for building its own IPR. The ChallengeOur challenge was to come up with IPPhone software based on SIP in 4Months. Our enthusiastic engineeringteam was assigned the task ofdeveloping a robust SIP Stack basedon RFC 2543 and RFC 2327,integrating RTP/RTCP and audiorelated components to make the firstIP call in CIBER Lab. The TechnologyThe Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is an application-layer control (signaling) protocol for creating, modifying and terminating sessions with one or more participants. These sessions include Internet multimedia conferences, Internet telephone calls and multimedia distribution. Members in a session can communicate via multicast or via a mesh of unicast relations, or a combination of these. The WorkA detailed requirement gathering wasundertaken to capture all the popularfeatures of a traditional feature phoneand then the team plunged intodesigning the SIP Stack and CallProcessing Engine. The task of integrating these moduleswith RTP/RTCP, Audio Driver andUser Interface was taken up,following which the whole softwarehad to pass the gates of our testingteam. The ResultDelivering on time team successfullydemonstrated an all IP call inCIBER Lab. |
