3D SecureThe Verified By Visa initiative is used for authenticating a cardholder, during an on-line transaction. The participants in the Vbv scheme are primarily the card issuing bank, Visa, and online merchants. The card holder is authenticated as a result of interaction between the above three entities during a online transaction. As a member of theVisa Vendor Forum for verified by visa, CIBER has successfully implemented and deployed both ACS and MPI. The BackgroundCIBER working on security line of products spotted the opportunity and the gap that was existing in providing a low cost high quality 3D Secure solution, and the team was entrusted to carve out a world class product within a short time frame. The TechnologyThe J2EE suite of technologies was chosen as the development and deployment platform for meeting the required architectural qualities. The components participating in the transaction were pool-able EJB components. This exploited the inherent scaling capabilities of the application server. All application components were either context - free or the context persisted on a scalable centralized storage. Entity beans were used to abstract the database layer in the application. Both container managed persistence(CMP) and bean managed persistence(BMP) were used. The TaskThe task of the entire 3D Secure product team was to come up with the architecture that could take care of scalability, performance and extensibility issues keeping in mind the protocol conformance and certification. Extensive regression & conformance testing were performed at every stage for not only protocol conformance but for ensuring a defect free product of high quality, leading to the certification of the product by VISA.
